My Art Journey
My art journey began after I retired from a law career and moved to enchanted Santa Fe, New Mexico. With a long love of art, but no experience or education in art making, I began at the beginning with a basic drawing course, followed by more art classes—learning materials, skills, theory, technique.
After forays into various materials and subjects, I feel like I have finally found my own path in the colors, shapes, textures, and layers of my paintings, using acrylics, collage, and mark-making tools. I am inspired by the work of other artists and by the history, culture, colors, landscapes, and nature of New Mexico and all of the American West. For me, making art has become an unguided meditation, in which I must add layer upon layer and then excavate the layers to find the painting, with no plan to get there or idea of where it will end up.
My current works include mixed media abstracts and figurative work, as well as woodblock prints.
